This is a matching 120mm-scale model to the
Scarlet Speedster kit, both sculpted by
Christopher Elizardo and
distributed by MojoResin. The Emerald
Gladiator is, of course, the Silver Age Hal Jordan Green Lantern, in all his
flying glory. It's actually a neat idea for a sculpt, with GL lifting into the
air from the lantern-logo base. As with the 120mm Flash model, the sculpt is
terrific and the casting a little less so. It's a pretty cool little kit.
That said, I have three minor complaints.
The first, a small one, is that the lantern logo on Hal's chest is a little
off-center -- actually, a little low and to the left. No big deal, especially
at this small size.
The second complaint concerns the cut of the uniform, where
the black tucks into the green around his lower chest/upper waist. As sculpted,
it's a straight-line angled cut into the chest logo, which is not how it's drawn in the
comics. I ignored the sculpted cut and painted a more rounded transition a
little lower down.
My final complaint concerns the kit's stability; the way it's
sculpted (or perhaps the way I assembled it... always hard to tell), GL tends to pitch forward, especially on less-than-perfectly flat
surfaces. Where I currently have the model everything's okay, but I may have to
attach some sort of counterbalance if I ever move it. (And, fortunately, the kit
is so small -- and so light -- it doesn't break anything if it does topple
over.)
Still, I like this kit. I painted the base
a single color, using Tamiya Metallic Green spray paint. For GL's costume, I
went with a darker green base (Apple Barrel's Kelly Green) and drybrushed
lighter-green highlights (Delta's Jubilee Green). The legs and arms are black,
of course. Just to be a tad different, I went with an off-white (Apple Barrel's
Antique White) for the gloves.
Bottom line, a very dynamic flying pose for
this neat little kit.
