Now this one's a winner!
This is a really nice sculpt of the aging
Superman in Alex Ross'
Kingdom Come Elseworld's mini-series/graphic novel. The sculptor is the
talented and prolific Shawn Nagle; I've
done several other of his kits. The pose, while static, is quite powerful. I
really like Supes' intimidating squint!
The casting on this kit was relatively
clean, a few pinholes here and there but nothing to complain about. It's a two-parter,
with the body and cape separate -- and a kind-of-cool method for making the cape
stand away from the body. (The cape has a raised area that fits within an
indentation in the back of the body, thus pushing the cape out and away.)
I used a very dark Heartland Blue for Supes'
tights, along with a dark Spice Red for his boots and cape. The blue, while flat
acrylic, has a kind of sheen that works very well for this particular model.
Drybrushing was used to get the off-white in his hair and eyebrows, as well as
for the realistic flesh tones.
The base is from
Night Life Productions,
their Flagstone Base, painted up in two shades of gray. Nothing special here,
just a nice complement to the Superman figure.
This one goes well with my
Kingdom Come bust, as well as with the
latest Nagle Batman figure. I like it!
