I love this kit.

Let Freedom Ring is a WWII Captain America diorama. It reminds me a lot of the old Aurora kits, with all the various stuff going on -- Cap vaulting the wall, the two German soldiers in front, lots of this and that on the ground, a great-looking brick wall decorated with a Nazi flag (complete with bullet holes). Lots of stuff happening, and very dynamic.

The model was sculpted by comics great Joe Simon. It came in 20 resin parts. MojoResin was the distributor.

With a kit this detailed, there was plenty of opportunity to spice things up. First, with the painting. I did a lot of dry brushing and washes on the brick wall, to get just the right worn-out look. (I'm getting really good at painting bricks...) I also used a wash on the flag, to make it look worn and dirty. And, speaking of dirt, look at all the "mud" I dry brushed onto the German soldiers; their uniforms look really lived-in, so to speak.

In contrast, Cap was pretty simple to paint. I did use a little wash on his tunic, to emphasize the chain mail on top, but other than that, pretty straight ahead. The only odd thing I did was use metallic paints on his shield. It came out alright, not as shiny as I would have hoped.

I did to a bit of customizing on the base. I raided the model train section of my local hobby store, and used fake grass, sticks, and stones to make the base look more realistic. I like the effect.

(Oh, and by the way, what the soldiers are eating is a loaf of bread. My nephews, when they first saw this kit in unpainted form, thought they were eating a "Nazi burrito." I don't know what that is, but it sounds tasty!)

All in all, a very dynamic, very complex, very attractive kit. Like I said, it's one of my favorites!
