New Nagle Batman

Now this is one cool Batman model!

This one's by the incomparable Shawn Nagle, and it's similar to the previous Nagle Dark Knight Batman, except a lot bigger (a little over 12" tall), a more refined pose, and a slightly different costume. This isn't the Frank Miller Dark Knight; it's more like the Jim Lee Batman from the "Hush" storyline, although that isn't quite it, either. Nagle sculpted a completely new Batman this time around, one that includes little bits and pieces from several different versions. He has the Miller-style bat-symbol without the yellow oval, and a Miller-like pouch utility belt; but he also has these heavy-metal armor thingies on his gloves, as well as weird round devices on the inside of his wrists. (What the heck are they supposed to be?) In any case, I like this version of Bats, a lot.

Because this Batman is so different from the others in my collection, I decided to forgo my usual gray-and-black paint scheme and go with colors more like what you see in the comics. So instead of a black cape and cowl, I went with a dusty kind of blue. And instead of dark gray tights, I went with a lighter gray. I also decided to make the bat-symbol a little lighter than normal, so it's not black, it's slate-colored. The belt is straight ahead yellow, and the metal bits were painted with an aged metallic paint.

For a base, I went with CD Productions' 70's Bat base, which matches the chest symbol fairly well. I painted it the same slate color.

The kit was fairly well made, requiring only the usual amount of puttying and sanding. The eBay seller I bought this from had actually done a bit of prep work, so any serious holes were pre-filled. I had a bit of a challenge fitting Bats' boots to his legs, but I got it all to work out.

The result? A really dynamic Batman, in a really dynamic pose. It's the most different looking Batmodel in my collection -- and one of the most striking!
