This is the 1978 Monogram reissue of the classic 1960s Aurora kit. This
was the first kit I built since taking up the hobby (and also the first kit I
built as a kid in the 60s!), and therefore is a little rougher at the seams than subsequent
projects.
My major modification was using the Kingdom Come Superman uniform, with
darker colors, the modified black "S" symbol on his chest (but no
symbol on the cape), and black belt. In keeping with the Kingdom Come theme,
Supes is also graying at the temples. I'm particularly proud of the detail work
on the bricks, which required two separate layers of dry
brushing.
I didn't use any putty, unfortunately, so
you can see the seams a bit. I sprayed a matte finish after the kit was
completed, which ended up giving a kind of dull shine, not quite what I
expected.
Still, not bad for my first effort in
thirty-odd years! (And I still think this is one of the best-sculpted kits out
there.)
